Today I had completely finished off my evaluation as I spent my free lessons in the media suite trying to get it done as Tanzil also needed to finish his off on the Mac. By the time the lesson came, I was finished completely and so I just spent the lesson going over my website and making sure that everything was up to date and uploaded. I also helped Nicole, who was finishing off Romyn's evaluation as he had not completed it to a decent standard. This was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be as he had already recorded his voice-over and we had to work with it as it was.
In today's lesson, I finished off my evaluation, making sure that it flowed smoothy and the relevant images and clips of footage appeared at the right time according to my voice and what was being said.
Tanzil finished off filming his creative evaluation filler for the clone scene, which required me to help him plan out where he would be standing and looking etc. This worked really well, all of the 'clones' worked in time with one another and it looked really effective when it was finished on final cut, adding in the relevant videos into the screen as well. Nicole spent today's lesson u Previously, our teacher had given our group the idea of using clones in our evaluation when talking about how we created the split-screen clone effect as this would be very creative and, if executed properly, would look very professional.
To do this, I filmed Tanzil (who had already planned what he would be saying and where he should be looking etc) in the green room through three different shots of footage. These were later put onto final cut and the split screen was applied in three different ways to show how each version of Tanzil came on screen, spoke about the clip that was relevant, and left. Also, it was important to show how these clones interacted with one another; something which Tanzil had already planned thoroughly; knowing when he should look in a certain place and what actions he should be doing. As we had deiced to set out or evaluation as the 'extended bonus features' of a DVD, we filmed our individual introductions in today's lesson. We used the green room to record ourselves reading our scripted introduction; stating our name, role in making the trailer and the question which we would be answering.
This went very well and we immediately put them onto Final Cut to edit these, keying out the green background and placing images of our poster in the background to mimic the style that is used when actors/producers give interviews and premiers etc. We also added a bar at the bottom of the footage with our name, role and the question we would be answering to give the whole thing a much more professional feel. Today, we had decided that our weebly sites should all be completely finished and upto date with any work that we have done and that we should get this done and out of the way to the best of our ability so that our full attention could be used to finalise our evaluations and other products.
I sat down and wrote a list of what needs to be finished off in each section of weebly, down to scanning in sheets and finishing off writing and analysing. Nicole and I decided that we would get to work on this as soon as we both got home. During today's lesson, I got to work with putting some of the footage and images that I would be using for my evaluation onto final cut. Tanzil and Nicole were finishing off weebly; uploading the screen shots from the processes that they each went through in making the poster and magazine. I had also decided today that using a voiceover would definitely be inappropriate for my evaluation question as there were significant portions of the footage where there was nothing to be shown on screen; using a green-screen effect where I was constantly on screen would mean that at each point where there was nothing of significance to be shown on screen.
Today, me and Tanzil read through each-other's scripts for our evaluation questions and gave eachother feedback about what was good and what could be improved. For my evaluation, it seemed that I had covered everything and just needed to include a small piece about why we chose to use minimal sci-fi objects such as spaceships and guns etc as we wanted to take a much more implicit approach rather than running the risk of it looking tacky or gimicky. Tanzil's evaluation was pretty much perfect as he was answering the question on technology and he knew step-by-step what he would be saying and what would be shown on screen at each point.
As Nicole was making progress with the poster on photoshop and the magazine was at a good standard, myself and Tanzil set to work on our evaluation, looking at the evaluations for 'hazard' and noting down key points which they addressed in their evaluation; it seemed that the most effective and creative 'style' of evaluation was physically being on screen in from of the green-room so that the audience would always have something on screen rather than using a voiceover where, if there were no relevant images or footage to include, they would be staring at a blank screen.
I began to bullet point the main points which I would use in my evaluation and started to develop them into a structure which I would be able to use when recording my evaluation. We altered the initial image that we were going to use for our poster as the king was not in focus, we captured another image of the king and photoshopped it on top of the first king so that it appeared more in focus and made the overall quality of the image much better.
After photoshopping the image that we chose to work on after our previous photoshoot, we showed our teacher to get some feedback so that we could decide to either keep it or try again with a different technique. The feedback that we received wasn't what we had hoped for; we were told that although the image was a good photograph and was technically very good, it did not fit our genre and it wasn't clear that it belonged to our teaser trailer. Tanzil was also working on the magazine cover; it was looking brilliant, however, one of the pieces of writing about Romyn's character wasn't quite right, therefore, he went onto the internet and looked again at some examples of Empire magazine to gain some inspiration as to what type of phrase he should use. |
